Akela Cooper (M3GAN, Malignant, The Nun 2) has been set to adapt the screenplay for a new Universal horror movie based on a Colin Bannon-penned short story, “Don’t Look.”
Deadline reports the mysterious new horror film will star Janelle Monáe (Glass Onion, Antebellum). Though the film is still wrapped in mystery, the story is rumored to be in the vein of “What Lies Beneath” and “Rosemary’s Baby”, telling the story of a recently married woman whose life is upended when her husband’s long-lost wife shockingly returns after she was believed to be dead, sparking fears that she’s hatching a sinister plan to reclaim what was once hers.
Though most of the films on Cooper’s resume were well received, hardcore horror fans like myself saw them as more of an activist list. If this is true, it seems quite like the major Hollywood thrillers that ride the edge of horror and thriller. Most so called major players in Hollywood were ashamed to call their films horror, but it seems that in the vein of the woke wave still being ridden by a lot of studios, this one sounds like it may be like that.
More on that in another article.
Hopefully, plot details will emerge soon. Stay tuned.
