The trailer for "Late Night With The Devil" the movie's creepy retro atmosphere. The upcoming horror title, which has already received praise from legendary author Stephen King, was co-written and co-directed by Cameron and Colin Cairnes. It stars David Dastmalchian as Jack Delroy, a television talk show host in the 1970s whose attempt to commune with the devil on live TV goes horribly wrong, as presented in a found footage-style format.
The trailer showcases the characters at the center of the narrative, revealing their possible motivations for bringing this ill-advised summoning to the air. It also includes words of praise from King, who said the movie was “absolutely brilliant” and that “I couldn’t take my eyes off it.”
As this trailer reveals, part of the way that Late Night with the Devil aims to unnerve viewers is bymimicking a real-life television broadcast from the 1970s. This is in a similar vein to other television-based found footage titles, like the 2013 horror-comedy WNUF Halloween Special or the real-life 1992 British hoax broadcast Ghostwatch. One thing that movies in this subgenre need above all else is realism, which is something that Dastmalchian is more than able to provide.
Over the years, the star has appeared in a variety of genre movies in increasingly large roles. However, in the horror and thriller genres, he is still generally recognized as acharacter actor who takes on supporting parts that are meant to flesh out the world around the main characters. This was perhaps best exemplified when he joined the Boogeyman cast as previous victim Lester Billings, but he has also held similar roles in The Last Voyage of the Demeter, Bird Box, Twin Peaks, and The Belko Experiment.
Late Night with the Devil utilizes Dastmalchian's ability to present realistically fleshed-out horror characters to devilish effect by putting him front and center. His history of taking on more unassuming roles gives him the ability to breathe life into the lead role and provide the movie with an added layer of realism. This will help drive the movie's horrifying premise home even further.
