‘The Neverending Story’ is coming back with a new live-action film series

Funny how the other day I said to myself that remakes are a never ending story. I actually said that. So now we have a live action series of The Never-Ending Story.

The 1979 fantasy novel by late German author Michael Ende was previously adapted into the cult classic 1984 film, which was followed by two sequels in 1990 and 1994.

According to Variety, Ende’s estate has been hearing offers “for the last few years” from studios and streamers hoping to bring the world of Fantastica to a modern audience.

See-Saw Films announced Wednesday on X, formerly Twitter, that it will be partnering with Michael Ende Productions to develop and produce the new film series.

See-Saw Films also made an announcement on Instagram.

“Every generation deserves a journey into Fantastica. Let the story of all stories begin!” See-Saw Films wrote in an Instagram post.

Producer Iain Canning told Variety that “The Neverending Story” is “both timely and timeless” and has the opportunity to be told in a new way.

“Part of the specialness of the book is that you can go back to it at different ages in your life and find different levels of meaning,” Canning told Variety. “So how wonderful that we have this opportunity to do a fresh perspective that will have new layers and meanings. We just believe that every generation deserves their own journey into Fantastica.”
