X-Men ‘97 First Clip Pits the Mutant Team Against The Sentinels

Wolverine, Rogue, Beast, and more fight off an army of Sentinel robots with their iconic Mutant power in a new look at the X-Men '97 Disney+ cartoon.

An official clip for Marvel's X-Men: The Animated Series revival previewed the classic team facing off against a legion of killer Sentinels to the tune of the classic X-Men theme song. This leads into a few demonstrations of the X-Men's power, from Rogue yanking off a Sentinel's head to Beast manipulating its chassis from the inside to Bishop redirecting an energy blast at one Sentinel after absorbing its attack. However, despite their powers, the Sentinels still prove durable, with one tossing Wolverine off its shoulder and into another robot before he can fully destroy it.

In addition to bringing back X-Men voice actors like Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, and Alison Sealy-Smith, X-Men '97's plot will serve as a direct tie-in to the original cartoon's 1997 series finale. On how he sought to unite classic and modern interpretations of X-Men together, former showrunner Beau DeMayo revealed in a February interview, "When I first came to this, I was thinking about what the world of the '90s was like, even issues of social acceptance and what does it mean to be different? It was so much more simplistic than it is today. [The X-Men] spent years telling humanity to embrace the future, walk into the future together. What happens when they get hit with a future they didn't see coming? What does it feel like to be on the other end when you feel like that future is leaving you behind?"

Ten episodes of X-Men '97 will release between March 20 and May 15, with the final episodes making up a three-part season finale. Along with the established X-Men roster, actor Theo James (The White Lotus, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf) will voice a "fan-favorite character" whose identity still remains unknown. When Disney is involved, I don't like surprises
