Following the firing of creator Beau DeMayo from the animated revival series “X-Men ’97” earlier this week, another executive producer on the series has released a statement.
Speaking with Variety, Brad Winderbaum only briefly touched upon DeMayo’s involvement saying: “He did excellent work writing Seasons 1 and 2, and I can’t wait for fans to see the series.”
The official reason for DeMayo’s firing two days ago, and his subsequent deletion of multiple social media accounts, are currently unknown though speculation has been rife in the days since.
The series explores new stories in the iconic 90s timeline of the original “X-Men: The Animated Series” from that era. Winderbaum goes on to praise all the work the production team on the series has done:
“The entire team came together to create a revival worthy of the X-Men’s 60-year legacy. From Stan and Jack, to Claremont, to the Lewalds, we all truly were standing on the shoulders of giants.”
DeMayo made headlines in late 2022 for his comments in an interview where he revealed some of his fellow writers on Netflix’s “The Witcher” series “actively disliked the books and games” and one of the key hiring practices on “X-Men ’97” was a person had to be a fan of the original series.
“X-Men ’97” debuts on the Disney+ service on March 20th.
